Dr. Kathryn Garforth is passionate about every child's #RightToRead. As a dyslexic and the parent of a dyslexic she has a personal connection to the struggles students face. Her teacher training program did not provide the training to teach children like her how to read.  She's determined to spread awareness about best practices for teaching reading.

Kathryn Hayes-Waldhuber from The Connected Educator, is a kindergarten educator who embeds synthetic phonics into a full-day, play-based kindergarten program. She has drawn on her past experiences to reflect, refine and implement best practices in reading instruction, in order to prevent future reading failures. As an instructional coach implementing RTI and norm referenced universal screening, her program and instructional practices are driven by assessment and progress monitoring that measure early reading strategies.
In her role as a program consultant, she supported the strategic direction of “all students reading by the end of grade 1”, facilitating and collaborating with her school board to produce resources, including the early reading strategy, based on the five pillars of reading instruction. As an independent consultant & tutor, she continues to support students and educators beyond the classroom, nurturing a love for reading through advocating for the science of reading instruction.
