Dorothy McKay, Grade 2 & 3 teacher in Ontario.
Dorothy McKay has taught with the Thames Valley District School Board in southwestern Ontario since 2001. She became interested in finding out how children learn to read when her intermediate students were unable to read or write at grade level.
This led Dorothy on a journey into the science of reading movement where she learned about the benefits of structured literacy and how it would help all students.
She publicly declared in 2019 to anyone who would listen that balanced literacy was dead to her and she can be found using explicit, direct instruction daily with amazing results!
