The discuss an article the co-wrote called A Road Map to Evidence Based Instruction in Reading and Writing Education: A Secondary Meta-analysis on the Science of Reading & Writing Instruction and what it means for classroom teaching.

Dr. Kathryn Garforth is passionate about every child's #RightToRead. As a dyslexic and the parent of a dyslexic she has a personal connection to the struggles students face. Her teacher training program did not provide the training to teach children like her how to read. She's determined to spread awareness about best practices for teaching reading.

Rachel Schechter, Ph.D. is the founder of Learning Experience Design (LXD) Research and has led research teams evaluating educational programs for learners of all ages since 2007; she most recently was the Vice President of Learning Sciences at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH). At HMH, Dr. Schechter designed a learning sciences framework to support product development for all products (for learners and teachers) across the company. While leading the research team at Lexia Learning, Dr. Schechter oversaw the publication of 11 peer-reviewed articles about reading instruction, blended learning, and assessing foundational skill development. Evidence for ESSA and state education departments in Arizona and Utah have approved research led by LXD Research staff. Dr. Schechter holds a doctorate in Child Development from Tufts University and a Master of Arts in Education from Harvard University.

Dr. Brandi Noll is a university professor, literacy specialist, author, presenter and professional development provider for k-12 schools with over 25 years of experience helping students to become more successful readers, and leading teachers to be more reflective and purposeful in their literacy instruction. She currently serves as the Lead Administrator in Literacy for Raising Reading Achievement – a national organization devoted to increasing literacy scores across the U.S.- and is a Literacy Specialist working in collaboration with UNICEF to revise a literacy assessment used in over 50 countries across the world.
